VIA recently launched a new Mini-ITX motherboard, named EPIA M700, which is based on an innovative VX800 chipset that enables the usage of dual-digital displays. The new board was designed to address the increasing demand for enhanced media playback across multiple displays in digital multimedia applications and could save users the cost of purchasing of an external graphic card.

The VIA EPIA M700 supports dual-DVI, DVI Plus, and HDMI configurations with unique resolutions, and can deliver better pixel depths and refresh rates. Therefore, users may find that it provides a better solution than most onboard graphic solutions currently in the market.

The VIA EPIA M700 also offers two PCI-Express based Gigabit LAN ports, designed to facilitate wideband data transfer for large video and other files over networks. The new motherboard features a VIA C7 processor with speeds of 1.5GHz, or 1.0GHz (ultra quiet fan-less version) and leverages the high performance of the VIA VX800 unified chipset with its integrated VIA Chrome9 HC3 graphics core, designed to be compatible for DirectX 9.0 3D.

The board also includes six-channel VIA Vinyl HD Audio rich surround sound, and the VIA Chromotion video engine, which provides advanced hardware video acceleration and an improved visual experience. The VIA EPIA M700 is compatible with most common video formats, including MPEG-2, MPEG-4, WMV9, VC1 and DivX video, and it has a VMR capable HD video processor.

"The VIA VX800 system media processor brings digital content to life on embedded systems," said Daniel Wu, Vice President, VIA Embedded Platform Division, VIA Technologies. "The VIA EPIA M700 harnesses the power of the VIA VX800, delivering a product that embraces the latest digital multimedia experience while maintaining our commitment to rigid power and heat efficiency".
